Katherine M. Keyes, PhD, is Professor of Epidemiology at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Katherine’s research focuses on psychiatric and substance use epidemiology across the lifecourse, including early and cross-generational origins of child and adult health and cohort effects on substance use, mental health, and injury outcomes including suicide and overdose. She is particularly focused on methodological challenges in estimating age, period, and cohort effects, as well as using mathematical agent-based and other simulation models to inform public health and policy interventions. She is the author of more than 500 peer-reviewed publications, and two textbooks published by Oxford University Press: “Epidemiology Matters: A New Introduction to Methodological Foundation”, published in 2014 and “Population Health Science” published in 2016. Her work is funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse, National Institution of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, National Institute of Mental Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Columbia University.
Dr. Mimura is Professor Emeritus at Keio University in Tokyo, Japan, and a Project Professor at the Center for Preventive Medicine at the same institution. He currently serves as President of the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology, the Japan Society of Higher Brain Function, and the Health Care Science Institute. Until 2023, he was Professor and Chair of the Department of Neuropsychiatry at Keio University School of Medicine. He has also held several leadership roles at Keio University, including Vice-Director of Keio University Hospital and Director of the Memory Center, Stress Research Center, Kampo Medical Science Research, and Super-Centenarian Research Center.
Dr. Mimura graduated from Keio University School of Medicine in 1984 and earned his Ph.D. there in 1992. He completed a fellowship in Behavioral Neurology at Boston University School of Medicine, working at the Aphasia Research Center and the Memory Disorders Research Center. After serving as Associate Professor at Showa University School of Medicine, he returned to Keio University in 2011. His research focuses on geriatric psychiatry, particularly dementia and late-life depression, as well as neuropsychological studies of brain damage and organic mental disorders. Dr. Mimura has authored over 680 peer-reviewed publications.
Professor Marcella Rietschel is a psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and medical geneticist. From 2002 until her retirement in 2024, she served as Director of the Department of Genetic Epidemiology in Psychiatry and the Molecular Genetic Laboratory at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim (University of Heidelberg) Germany. Marcella Rietschel’s research focuses on identification of genetic and environmental risk factors for psychiatric conditions. Recognizing that her research is performed with people and for improving the wellbeing of people, her research also explores the translation of psychiatric genetic research findings into clinical practice and the associated ethical, legal, and social implications. To this end she has led national and international projects on ethical, legal and social implications (ELSI) and served as independent ethical advisor in large multinational consortia. She has published more than 600 original papers. She is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina); the Heidelberg Academy of Science; and the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics (ISPG).She served on the ISPG Board of Directors from 2010-2016; was ISPG Vice President from 2012-2016; and received the ISPG Ming Tsuang Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017. From 2020 until 2024 she was Chair of the WPA Section on Genetics in Psychiaty.
