ABSTRACT

Workshop 2 | Practical sleep study strategies, as an integrative part of lifestyle medicine

Damiana-Maria Vulturar, MD, PhD student, ’’Iuliu Hatieganu’’ University of Medicine & Pharmacy, Cluj-Napoca (Romania)

Sleep is an important part of our daily routine; we spend about one-third of our time doing it. As is known, sleep is variable from person to person. The way that people sleep and how much they need can vary widely and the number of hours of sleep that are good for our health can change during our lifetime.Through this workshop, we aim to sensitize participants about issues related to what sleep means in our lives, through:
  • understanding the role of sleep as a pillar of lifestyle medicine
  • learning about sleep cycles
  • recognising different sleep issues and the importance of referring the patient to a sleep specialist
  • practical skills for monitoring sleep length, efficiency, and identification of the sleep problems
  • sleep study methods - nocturnal cardiorespiratory polygraph recording
  • practical ways to improve sleep quality.
