It is a great honor and pleasure to invite you to the 2022 Consensus Conference and 5th Refresher Course of the European Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery (ESPN), which will be held in Athens…

The topic selected for the Consensus Conference is CNS AVMs in children. The program has been structured with the aim of answering three among the main debated questions on this topic. The first will be “ Are Pediatric AVMs : congenital or acquired anomalies ?
The second question on which a consensus it will be attempted is Indications and management of ruptured pediatric AVMs focusing on the surgical indications, but also the other techniques, namely endovascular embolization and radiotherapy techniques, their related complications and their avoidance. The last question to which we will direct our attention is what are the indications for treatment in unruptured pediatric AVMs and what type of treatment to be performed .

The Consensus Conference will be followed by the Refresher Course, which will be dedicated to Secondary neurulation and junctional anomalies, undoubtedly over the recent years, a large amount of new information has been raised by the advances in the embryology. An updated perspective on the clinical repercussions to everyday practice on the different forms of spinal dysraphisms and treatment options will be the center of the Course, which, as per tradition of ESPN educational activities, will have a distinguished part dedicated to practical management issues through case discussions sections.
