Description
The archaeological site of Delphi is located in Phocis province on a plateau on the slope of Mount Parnassus. The ancient Greeks called Delphi «the omphalos (i.e. navel) of the Earth», and this was designated by a large, round, conical stone. Delphi is best-known for the oracle at the sanctuary of Apollo, a major temple of the god of prophecy and patron of philosophy and the arts. Today Delphi is a charming village with spectacular scenery and the ancient remains within the boundaries of the modern town.
