Welcome Letter

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a great pleasure to invite you to the 77th Annual Congress of the Hellenic Association of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology - HAOST that will be held in Athens, Greece at the Megaron Athens International Conference Center from 6th to 9th October 2021.

The HAOST is a well-established and highly active organisation founded in 1947 that represents Greek Orthopaedic Surgeons. Our Annual Congress aims to update the Greek Orthopaedic Community on the latest achievements and data regarding state-of-the-art issues on Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology by distinguished domestic as well as international specialists and academics. This year we send a special invitation to the Orthopaedic Surgeons of the Hellenic Diaspora spread across the world to take part in our great national Orthopaedic meeting and share their knowledge and experience.

The primary emphasis of this year’s conference is patient safety. This recognises the paramount importance of giving every patient the chance to get the best diagnostic workup and the best environment to treat and perform surgery, so complications that may compromise results are minimised or eliminated, if possible.

The Congress will present an excellent opportunity for specialists to interact and exchange opinions on new perspectives within Orthopaedics. The aim of this meeting is to be inclusive way for varying experience levels, so that all participants will benefit from our 4-day programme. For the junior doctor we will have basic courses, instructional lectures and a comprehensive review course. This allows the whole syllabus to be briefly outlined focusing on the areas of knowledge required to become a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. The more experienced surgeon will be more invested in the “Experts meet Experts in a debate forum”, covering various aspects of specialty within the orthopaedic sphere. For those particularly interested in outpatient clinics and office orthopaedics we will have special sessions that will also attract the attention of other specialists who treat certain injuries and musculoskeletal disorders.

Given these unprecedented difficult times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, transfer to Athens from overseas may not be advised therefore presentations might be live-streamed, namely hosted through the internet and accessible to all registered participants worldwide.

All abstracts accepted for presentations, including e-posters, will be published in Acta Orthopaedica et Traumatologica Hellenica - www.eexot-journal.com.

I am sure that our Congress delegates will greatly benefit from scientific experts and clinical experience and we consider every participation an important asset which will significantly contribute to the success of our scientific event.

With my warmest personal regards

Mr Theodore P. Kormas, MD, PhD
President of the Hellenic Association of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology-HAOST
