Dr. Pagnano is an internationally recognized expert in joint replacement surgery. He has focused his patient care, research and educational endeavors to make knee and hip replacement increasingly reliable, reproducible and efficient both for patients at Mayo Clinic and worldwide. His substantial contributions to the orthopedic community have demonstrably improved the care of knee and hip replacement patients in the areas of surgical technique, perioperative pain management, and techniques that limit blood loss and transfusion.
Dr. Pagnano is often asked for insight and analysis of contemporary orthopedic issues and has been featured in mainstream media outlets, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, National Public Radio and Consumer Reports. Marius Scarlat
Marius M. Scarlat MD, PhD, Dr HC, is a Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Specialist working in the Orthopaedic and Sports Surgery Department of Clinique Saint Michel in Toulon, France. Dr Scarlat is performing open and arthroscopic reconstruction of Shoulder and Elbow and is author of many scientific papers in the orthopaedic literature. Marc Swiontkowski
Marc Swiontkowski, MD, is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is the past president of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and the American Orthopaedic Association. In 1979, he received his Medical Degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency training at the University of Washington. After a research fellowship in Switzerland he joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University. In July 1988 he returned to the University of Washington and in 1989, was promoted to Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and assumed the position of Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle, Washington. From September 1997 through October 2007, he held the position of Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota. From 2007 through July 2015, he held the position of CEO for TRIA Orthopaedic Center. He is currently a Professor at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Swiontkowski is an NIH funded investigator and has published articles in peer review journals on numerous topics including osteomyelitis, fracture treatment, and the assessment of musculoskeletal outcomes. He's lectured extensively in this country as well as abroad. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.

Javad Parvizi MD, is James Edward Professor of orthopedic surgery at the Rothman Institute and Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He is director and vice chairman of research. His clinical practice involves reconstruction of complex pelvis, hip, and knee conditions with special emphasis on
joint preservation and periprosthetic joint infection. He has performed over 1000 joint preservation and 5000 joint arthroplasty procedures. He performs around 600 surgical procedures per year. He is a member of numerous National and International Societies and has served in leadership roles in a
large number of national committees. He chaired the workgroup of the MSIS workshop that proposed the MSIS definition of PJI in 2010 that has been adapted by the Center for Disease Control as the definition of PJI. Dr. Jennifer (Jen) Westendorf is the Margaret Amini Professor in Orthopedic Regenerative Medicine Research at Mayo Clinic. She is a Consultant and Professor of Orthopedics and of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Dr. Westendorf earned her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from Mayo Graduate School and performed postdoctoral training at St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital and Vanderbilt University. Dr. Westendorf’s research focuses on the molecular and epigenetic mechanisms of bone and joint formation, degeneration, regeneration, and tumorigenesis. Dr. Schoenfeld received his medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and a Master of Science in Healthcare Research from the University of Michigan. Dr A. Nikolaides is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialized in Reconstructive Surgery of the Knee and Hip as well as General Orthopaedic Trauma. He graduated from Thessaloniki Medical School in 1990 and started his internship in Orthopaedics and Trauma the same year in the United Kingdom. He received his training in Royal Victoria infirmary Newcastle Upon Tyne, Good Hope Hospital Sutton Coldfield and Solihull Hospital. He worked amongst others with A. J Polyzoides FRCS in Solihull for three consecutive years being his Registrar. During this period he was involved with the evolution of the Rotaglide Total Knee System Corin Medical UK and the training of many surgeons in the technique of meniscal bearing implants. In 1996 he returned to Greece and after completing his military service, he became Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in the 3rd Orthopaedics and Trauma Unit University of Thessaloniki – “Papageorgiou” General Hospital until September 2010. During this period he performed as a Leading Surgeon Primary and Revision knee and hip surgery, as well as trauma both adult and paediatric. Ηe was also actively involved in the teaching of medical students and the training of Registrars in primary and revision joint replacement Surgery as well as complex trauma. From 2007 until 2010 he represented his Unit as a leading surgeon, in a multinational Evaluation Study of the GMK Total Knee System Medacta Switzerland as well as the TWX-E intramedullary nail of SANATMETAL Company. He has also been involved in numerous study protocols regarding hip and knee surgery. He has also completed his PhD on “Wear of mobile Polyethylene inserts in Total Knee Replacement – A clinical and experimental study”
From 1st September 2010 until 31st October 2013 he worked in private practice a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in “Kyanous Stavros” (Blue Cross) Private Hospital Thessaloniki Greece. From 27th February 2014 until 21st March 2015 he worked as Consultant Lower Limb Orthopedic and Trauma Surgeon in Dr Sulaiman Al Habib Olaya Medical Center and Bone, Joint and Spine Hospital in Riyadh Saudi Arabia. From 7th April 2015 until 31st December 2016 he worked as a Specialty Doctor in Orthopaedic and Trauma with Associate Specialist duties in Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust.
From 1st of January 2017 he is a Senior Orthopaedic and Trauma Specialist - Acting Consultant and Associate Lead of the Trauma Service at Heartlands Hospital .Consultant led Senior Trauma service of four weekly sessions. Member of the Upper and Lower Limb Senior Trauma Unit. Also Trauma supervisor of Tier 3 doctors and Coventry and Warwickshire Deanery ST trainees. Organiser of Consultant Trauma rota and fracture clinic workflow schedule. Provider of two weekly Independent elective service sessions, including Lower Limb Arthroplasties and Arthroscopic Surgery. Provider of one Trauma/Elective OPD clinic. Also member of the Trust's Thrombosis Committee. Since 1st April 2017 he is Honorary Senior Lecturer of Birmingham University and responsible for the induction training of 5th year Medical students of Birmingham University in Orthopaedics and Trauma. He is also a regular member of OSCE 5TH Year medical students examiners Board. He has been the General Secretary of the Greek Association of Hip and Knee Reconstructive Surgery(2010-2012) and member of the board of the Greek College of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is honorable editor of Orthopaedics and Rheumatology Open access Journal and a regular reviewer for INJURY Journal and has taken part in numerous round tables as a speaker and instructor both in Greece and abroad, focusing on Primary and Revision Knee Arthroplasty, Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty, Hip Arthroplasty as well as General Orthopaedic Adult and Paediatric Trauma.
