The Sanctuary of Sounion, with the astonishing temple of Poseidon, is one of the most important sanctuaries in Attica. The sanctuary of Sounion is first mentioned in the Odyssey, as the place where Menelaus stopped during his return from Troy to bury his helmsman. Apart from its historical importance, Sounion offers one of the most breathtaking views in the Attica region.
