  INVITATION

On behalf of the Greek Organizing Committee, I am very pleased to welcome you to the 61st Annual Meeting of the EAAP here in Crete. This is the second time (1985) that the EAAP meets in Greece.

The theme of the Meeting is “Impact of food demand, in quantity and quality wise, on Animal Production” which is a hot topic in Europe and a very appropriate topic in view of the current worldwide demands for both human society and livestock industry. This Conference is also of great interest for the Greek livestock sector and gives a great opportunity to participants to share the experience of the wide range of Greek livestock farming systems which are related to physical and cultural features of Greece.

The participants will, also, have the opportunity to attend a very interesting scientific programme with a selected number of presentations from a great number of abstracts and to take part in workshops and discussions of the latest and most relevant research in the field of Animal Science, including Aquaculture. This would be very fruitful for young scientists and students in particular.

During the meeting days, the scientific programme will be enriched with different technical visits, social events and a special programme for accompanying persons, all of them designed to showcase the extraordinary variety of the local culture, and of the architectural and gastronomic inheritance of our country, particularly in Crete.

George Zervas
Rector of the Agricultural University of Athens and
President of the Hellenic Society of Animal Production
President of the Greek Organising Committee
