Access «Eleftherios Venizelos», the International Airport of Athens, is directly linked with 68 cities and 45 countries. Also Athens is easily accessed by rail, road and sea. Transportation from Athens “El. Venizelos” Airport to the City Center
By metro from the airport directly to Syntagma Sq. in the center of Athens. The ticket costs 8 Euros and may be purchased at the ticket counter of the airport metro station. A taxi from the airport to Athens city center costs approximately 25-30 Euros (higher rates apply after midnight) and takes about 30 minutes, or longer, depending on traffic conditions. (Rates are subject to change)
Transportation within Athens The cost of a single ticket is 0.70 Euro on the metro or 0.45 Euro on public buses.The cost of a 24hrs ticket for unlimited use of all types of public transport is 2.90 Euros. (Rates are subject to change).
Visa Visas are not required for participants from the USA and most European countries. If in doubt, please confirm if you need one with your travel agent or Greek Consulate.
Climate and Clothing The weather in the Greek capital during September is generally warm, sunny and pleasant. The average air temperatures are 25-30 oC (82-92 oF) during the day and 19-30 oC (70-92 oF) during the evening.
Liability and Insurance Neither the organizers nor the Travel Agencies assume responsibility for injury and/or damage involving persons or property during the Congress. Participants are advised to take out their own personal insurance.
Foreign Exchange and Banking Arrangements The official currency of Greece is the Euro. Foreign currency, traveler’s checks and Eurocheques can be exchanged at the airport bank upon arrival or at banks located throughout Athens. A banking service will be available at the Congress Venue for currency exchange. Local banks or hotels do not cash personal checks. Participants are advised to bring cash, traveler’s checks or Eurocheques. Major credit cards are accepted in Hotels, Restaurants, Shops etc. Banks are open for the public from Monday to Friday 08:00am 14:00pm.
